David Bowie’s epic song Space Oddity, in its literal sense, described government’s mission of sending a human to space. Just days after the song’s debut, Apollo 11 landed on the moon. America has accomplished great things, sometimes with the support of a government agency like NASA. Government, though, is not an all-knowing amorphous entity. It is made up of human beings, none of whom are infallible, meaning that even a well intentioned government makes mistakes. Perhaps Ground Control’s mistakes are what cost Major Tom his life. Will you allow government mind control to affect yours?
Anyone who has watched lawyers on TV resoundingly knows that the right to question is fundamental. Indeed, it is often transformative to assumptions, evidence, and outcomes. Without cross examination we would not have been entertained by big screen giants on trial like in A Few Good Men staring Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, and Demi Moore.
A: You want answers?
Q: I want the truth!
A: You can’t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns . . . I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom . . . You have the luxury of not knowing what I know — that Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives . . .
Q: Did you order the code red?
A: I did the job. . .
Q: Did you order the code red?!
A: Your God Damn right I did!
Imagine a movie where there was no cross examination. It would be pretty boring. Some might call it a railroad job.
A: You want answers?
Q: I want the truth!
A: [silence]
You get the picture. Why then are we not questioning our representatives or the “facts” they espouse? We have the right and the obligation to ask questions and to independently evaluate the answers. Our representatives have the duty to answer our questions, not to reject the mere premise of our ability to question. The titles and position that you bestowed upon our elected or appointed representatives through your vote or your tax dollars do not make them smarter than you.
Do not let Ground Control – control your mind. Think freely. Think independently. Question assumptions. Question evidence. Reach your-own conclusions the way God enabled you to. Do not let anyone take that God given gift away from you.
Sincerely,
